Ultrasound

Pelvis/Pregnancies

• 90 minutes before your appointment empty your bladder
• Drink around 1 litre of water between 90 minutes and 1hour before your appointment and hold until after your appointment

Abdomen

• Fast for 6 hours before your appointment
• Please avoid smoking and chewing gum during this period
• You may eat as soon as your appointment is over
• You may drink water and take medications as normal

Renal/ Prostate

• Fast for 6 hours before your appointment.
• Please avoid smoking and chewing gum during this period
• You may take medications as normal
• 90 minutes before your appointment empty your bladder
• Drink around 1 litre of water between 90 minutes and 1hour before your appointment and hold until after your appointment.
• You may empty your bladder and eat as soon as your images have been taken.

Renal Arteries

• Fast for 12 hours before your appointment
• Ensure that you are well hydrated by drinking several glasses of water in the time leading up to your appointment. It is not necessary to hold this in your bladder.

Abdominal Arteries

• 12 hour fast

Nuchal Translucency

• Patients must be between 11-13 weeks gestation period
• 2 days before examination you are required to undergo a blood test from a pathology service
• 90 minutes before your appointment empty your bladder
• Drink around 1 litre of water between 90 minutes and 1hour before your appointment and hold until after your appointment.
• You may empty your bladder as soon as your images have been taken.

Mammography

• Please refrain from wearing deodorant or talc on the day of your appointment as they contain metals which interfere with the images.

CT

Abdomen/ Pelvis

• 4 hour fast before your appointment
• 2 glases of water to be drunk 1 hour before your appointment
• 1 glass of water every 15 for the hour leading up to your appointment. It is not necessary to hold this in your bladder

Chest/ Brain/ Soft tissue Neck

• 4 hour fast prior to your appointment

Renal

• Dink 750 mls of water 1 hour before your appointment

CT Pulmonary Angiogram (CTPA)

• 4 hour fast
