Bulk Billed Radiology

13-XRAY

X-Ray & Imaging now use the telephone number 13-XRAY (13-9729). Patients who wish to receive bulk billing for all examinations and procedures including all guided injections can do so by calling 13-XRAY.

In a similar way, referring clinicians who wish to get in contact with X-Ray & Imaging to discuss cases or order referral papers can do so by dialing 13-XRAY. With 8 practices across the Sunshine Coast, all patients have local access to Bulk Billed examinations and procedures -including guided injections.

“Using the most up to date imaging equipment such as Phillips iU22 ultrasounds and Siemens CT scanners, we believe that we can offer all clinicians and patients the very pinnacle of Imaging service at the Bulk Bill rate.” Explains Principal Radiologist Dr Richard Langford.

When X-Ray & Imaging first opened its doors in 2004 they were the only practice of its kind to provide Bulk Billed Medical imaging for all modalities.

It was always our ethos to provide this opportunity for all Sunshine Coast patients, and it’s good to see that other Medical Imaging providers have since followed suit.

With practices in Noosa, Cooroy, Coolum, Chancellor Park, Kawana, Caloundra, Golden Beach and Maleny; all Sunshine Coast doctors can take advantage of the services on offer by calling 13-XRAY and asking for some referral papers.

64 slice CT Cerebral Perfusion studies now available

The first of its kind anywhere on the Sunshine Coast, X-Ray & Imaging Caloundra’s 64 Slice CT scanner can now perform urgent Cerebral Perfusion studies.

This examination is for patients who present with symptoms of a recent stroke. Until now, General Practitioners typically send such candidates to the hospital where work up and imaging times generally take longer. Cases that can be diagnosed within 4 hours respond far better to treatment and have consistently better outcomes.

X-Ray & Imaging can ensure cases that are referred are diagnosed promptly and positive candidates sent directly to Nambour hospital for urgent treatment. Reducing the time between patients presenting and treatment can ensure that Sunshine Coast patients have a far better chance of good stroke recovery than before this study was made available.

“We have loaned the cerebral perfusion technology on a 3 month trial basis.” Explains Dr Richard Langford. “If local referrers find it useful and make good use of it we are more than happy to buy it permanently.”

The equipment allows for a distinction between dead brain matter and recoverable brain matter. This instantly allows for us to ascertain if the patient is a suitable candidate for clot lysis. If so, then we can bypass triage and the hospital imaging department and send them directly for treatment. Research indicates that treatment within 4 hours of the initial stroke leads to far better outcomes than treatment received outside this window.

64 slice CT scanning now available at Caloundra

X-Ray & Imaging are now offering 64 slice CT scans at Caloundra. The first of its kind at the Southern half of the Sunshine Coast, the new machine enables the most detailed imaging available quickly -with reduced radiation dose.

For many examinations, the 64 slice CT will not only provide invaluable extra detail, but will make life easier for patients. For a patient who is suffering from a shortness of breath, the 64 slice machine will be able to provide better detail without requiring the patient to hold their breath for more than 10 or 15 seconds.

“Having this machine in our disposal allows us to assign work that will benefit most from the new technology,” explains Radiologist Dr Richard Langford.

“Patients who are unable to lie still, are claustrophobic or have difficulty holding their breath for any period of time can be imaged at Caloundra within a few short seconds. The fast imaging and low dose is good news for patients whilst Radiologists love reporting on the highly detailed images. So everybody wins.” Except for the bank balance Richard!
